The New York Mets appear to be packing it in for 2010 with 39 games to go after falling out of contention since the All-Star break.
The team shipped catcher Rod Barajas to the Los Angeles Dodgers for cash on Sunday, and have promoted minor leaguer Jesus Feliciano as his replacement.
The Dodgers lost their starter, Russell Martin, for the season with a hip injury on Aug. 3, and replacement Brad Ausmus is hitting below .200 in 2010.
Barajas himself has batted just .225, but even that is an upgrade to the Dodgers' current production at catcher.
Barajas signed a one-year, $1 million contract before the 2010 season. He is a career .237 hitter. Feliciano has hit .342 for Triple-A Buffalo this season, his 13th in the minors.
Josh Thole will also see significant time behind the plate. He is batting .292 for New York in 2010.
