The New York Jets have reportedly come to terms on a new contract with one of their most important young players — but it wasn't Darrelle Revis.
While the Pro Bowl cornerback continues to hold out, the Jets are reportedly very close to coming to terms on a contract extension with All-Pro center Nick Mangold, according to ESPN.com.
While Mangold has confessed he was previously unhappy with his contract, he, unlike Revis, decided not to hold out — a decision that is going to pay off for him in a big way.
While the report doesn't have specifics of the contract, it will reportedly make Mangold the highest-paid center in the NFL.
The agreement would be another big offensive line extension for the Jets after re-signing tackle and fellow 2006 first-round pick D'Brickashaw Ferguson to a six-year, $60 million deal in July.
Mangold is the anchor of an offensive line that paved the way for a rushing attack that averaged a league-best 172.2 yards per game last season.
