The Red Sox and fourth-round pick Garin Cecchini are closing in on a
deal
reports WEEI.com.

A shortstop out of Barbe High School in Lake Charles, LA, Cecchini is expected to play third base in the majors. He is verbally committed to play at LSU next season and his draft stock fell after an ACL tear in March. He is reportedly seeking a $1.75 million signing bonus.

In an under-18 tournament last summer, Cecchini helped Team USA bag a gold medal by hitting .333 with a .529 OBP and .708 slugging percentage in eight games while playing left field.

Cecchini is also the highest drafted player who the Sox would not receive a compensation pick for next year if they failed to sign him, perhaps making him even more of a priority.
