The Red Sox may have just gotten some more help at first base.
The Red Sox and former Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado have reached an agreement on a minor league deal according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
Delgado will be paid $20,000 per month while at the Triple-A level and will have a $3 million deal that will be pro-rated if he makes it to the major leagues, Rosenthal reported on his Twitter page.
The Red Sox will have to call up the 38-year-old to the major league level by Sept. 1 or he will become a free agent.
First baseman Kevin Youkilis had season-ending surgery on his right thumb this week, and the Red Sox have been rumored to be looking for help at the first base position despite the return of Mike Lowell from the disabled list.
Delgado has been working his way back from a hip injury and hasn't played a game this season. Delgado was limited to 26 games in 2009, but in his last full season, 2008, the first baseman hit .278 with 38 home runs and 115 RBIs.
The Puerto Rico native is a .280 lifetime hitter and has 473 career home runs.
