Sidney Rice to Miss First Half of Season Following Hip Surgery

Brett Favre's favorite target will not be available for at least the first eight weeks of the regular season.

Vikings wide receiver Sidney Rice confirmed via text message to the Minnesota Star Tribune, that he underwent hip surgery on Monday at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., and that he is expected to miss the first half of the upcoming season.

The 6-foot-4, 202-pounder caught a team-leading 83 passes for 1,312 yards and eight touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl. Rice added 10 receptions for 184 yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs.
