The Jimmy Fund Telethon is coming up this Thursday and Friday, August 19-20, and Patient Activities Coordinator Lisa Scherber stopped in during Red Sox Gameday Live to remind NESN followers the impact that one donation can provide for the foundation.
Scherber has spent 18 years with the Jimmy Fund, and has seen the amazing developments in cancer research throughout her time working for the organization. She reminded NESN's Kathryn Tappen and Peter Gammons that a small donation can go a long way.
"We're always saying to people, 'Donate anything,'" Scherber said. "It's not necessarily money. Donate your blood, platelets, and things like that. It's an amazing thing when people call us and ask 'What can we do?' It touches us that these kids' stories are getting out."
She also talked about the impact the Jimmy Fund Telethon has upon the patient's lives, and how much their experiences have improved thanks to donations from the event.
"It brings the awareness out," Scherber said. "Anything that we can do to make these kids happy while they're undergoing their treatments is something that brings us joy, and it's an amazing thing how easy it is to make these kids smile."
