Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield will start the second game of Wednesday's day-night doubleheader with the Mariners instead of previously scheduled starter Jon Lester.
Lester is now the scheduled starter for Friday's series opener with the Tampa Bay Rays. Daisuke Matsuzaka, the previously scheduled starter for Friday, is suffering from lower back pain and will be forced to miss his start.
Wakefield's start Wednesday night, his first since July 20, will come against Mariners ace Felix Hernandez.
