NFL owners and many fans would like to see the schedule converted from 16 regular-season games and four preseason contests to an 18-2 split, but the NFLPA has provided resistance to the notion.
On Monday, Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork spoke out on the topic, telling WEEI that he would be open to the switch if the players are properly compensated.
"If you're going to take those two preseason games and make them regular-season games, then the pay has to be different. That's point blank," Wilfork said. "Me, personally, as a fan of football, I care less about 18, 20-game seasons as long as the pay is right. Don't pay me as four preseason games when there's only two preseason games and the other two are regular-season games. So if you want it like that, you will have to come out of your pockets for it."
No schedule changes are expected until the owners and players are able to complete a new collective bargaining agreement.
