Brandon Jacobs' Helmet Toss Could Cost Giants' Running Back Giants running back Brandon Jacobs‘ helmet literally had a more productive performance than he did on Sunday night.

Jacobs, who rushed for just eight yards on four carries in the 38-14 loss to the Colts, was benched by head coach Tom Coughlin in favor of Ahmad Bradshaw.

The bruising back, who decided to take his frustrations out on his headgear by spiking on the sidelines, misfired and sent it flying into the stands.

The helmet landed a reported 10 yards deep — two yards more than his rushing total on the evening.

“I was frustrated and went to throw it down on the ground, and it got caught on my finger and went into [the stands],” he told the media after the loss. “I apologize for that. It was frustration on my part.”

In 2001, the Saints tackle Kyle Turley ripped the helmet off Jets safety Damien Robinson and tossed it downfield. Turley, who was ejected from the game, was fined $25,000 by the team and he was ordered to take anger management courses.
