BOSTON — The Bruins don't play their first exhibition game until Wednesday night in Montreal, but the club has already announced its first round of cuts.
Eight players were trimmed from the training camp roster on Wednesday morning, with the Bruins releasing goalies Adam Courchaine and Michael Hutchinson, defensemen Ryan Donald and Cody Wild and forwards Levi Nelson, Tyler Randell, Antoine Roussel and Jordan Smotherman.
Donald, Smotherman and Roussel were in camp on tryout agreements. They will now report to the Providence Bruins’ training camp. Smotherman and Donald have already been signed to AHL deals by the Bruins.
Courchaine, Hutchinson, Nelson and Wild, who are all on two-way NHL/AHL deals, have been assigned to Providence, while Randell, a fourth-round pick in 2009, has been returned to his junior team, the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League.
With these cuts, the Bruins now have 49 players remaining in camp. More cuts are likely after the club returns from a pair of preseason games in Montreal and Rochester, N.Y. against the Canadiens and Florida Panthers, respectively, on Wednesday and Thursday.
