A recent SPORTSbyBROOKS timeline of events related to Serena’s supposed injury strongly implies that not only was the injury a hoax, but that it was even a cover-up for plastic surgery.
Serena, who uses Twitter rampantly, did not once mention an injury to her foot from the day of the injury, July 7, to the day of her surgery, July 15. She only brought it up once in “recovery” on July 17.
As for how her injury occurred, Williams narrated the event to USA Today.
“The pain felt like kind of a stubbed foot, like ‘Ow,’ and I thought, ‘Wow, I stubbed my foot.’ Then in 20 seconds, or a minute, I started walking again. And it hurt some more. So we looked down and there was glass all over the floor. I was standing, recovering, thinking I got a little cut and telling my nephew, who was with us, to be careful. Then my practice partner put a cellphone down to the floor so we could see, and there was a huge puddle of blood. I said, ‘OMG, I don’t think this is good.’ … “I don’t know how it happened. Honestly, I think someone may have dropped something, which is how I got cut on both feet.”
Her agent, Jill Smoller, told otherwise to AOL Fanhouse.
“She didn’t step on glass,” said Smoller.
Williams also played an exhibition match in Belgium the day after her supposed injury, was photographed partying in heels later that week, and made contradictory remarks about whether or not she needed the surgery at all.
Obviously, all of this has led to questions, and if you’ve seen Williams lately, you may notice that she looks a little different.
A July 19 tweet by Carmelo Anthony‘s wife LaLa Vasquez shows Serena in her boot, but may also show her having black eyes, implying that she was in recover from a nose-job.
British tabloid Daily Mail seems to think that Serena did in fact have work done, and all of the aforementioned circumstances sure do make sense as a cover-up, but if it is all true, two questions remain:
1. Why did that keep her out of the U.S. Open?
2. Why not wait until after the biggest tournament of the year?
The pieces just don’t quite fit together.
