Despite earlier reports claiming the Red Sox second baseman would undergo surgery Friday afternoon, Pedroia told reporters before Thursday's game they were untrue and that doctors have not yet decided what is best for his foot. Pedroia has a scheduled CT scan for Friday morning, after which doctors will make the final decision.
Though the diagnosis has yet to be made, the former MVP feels the surgical procedure is the best route for his career.
"I think that putting the screw in is the best idea," Pedroia said. "It is a 90 percent chance that [the bone] heals. I don't want to get to January to start my workouts and not feel good and miss something the next year."
Should the doctors decide surgery is the best option following the CT scan, Pedroia would undergo the screw placement procedure on Friday afternoon.
