Shaquille O’Neal has never made the job of NBA referee an easy one.
He commits traveling violations constantly, pushes opponents around, and is victimized by fouls nearly every time he touches the ball.
If the refs were so inclined, they could blow their whistle nearly every time down the court when Shaq is playing.
Because of his poor free-throw shooting ability, opponents often employ the infamous “hack-a-Shaq” strategy of putting the big man on the free-throw line in clutch situations.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, a famed proponent of the strategy, went as far as to make a joke out of it in the 2009 playoffs.
He called for a hack-a-Shaq within five seconds of the opening tip.
