The chair club is not happy.
The group has become a fixture in Harvard Square, meeting nightly to watch Red Sox games through the window of Cardullo's Gourmet Shoppe in Cambridge, Mass. The members will now be forced to pay for cable, as the store has removed the television, according to The Cambridge Chronicle.
It may not be earth-shattering news for much of the world, but for those who spend their time outside the store, it's devastating. That's especially true for Kelly Dugas Coveney and Douglas Coveney, who got married outside the store in 2006.
"Both my husband and I are so upset," Dugas Coveney told the newspaper. "I'm at work, and I can't stop crying.
"I just don’t know what we’re going to do now," she added. "Harvard Square just isn’t going to be the same for anybody anymore."
Donez Cardullo told the newspaper that the store is removing the television in order to shift all its focus to producing quality food.
"Quite frankly, it pains me, because I’m a die-hard Red Sox fan," Cardullo told the Boston Herald. "But I’m running a business."
The chair club, which has been visited by such celebrities as Denis Leary and Ben Affleck, does not appear to care too much about the food.
"A slap in the face, perhaps a feeling of being underappreciated and unwanted, no chance for ‘One Last Hurrah’ are the first things that come to mind," Coveney said. "At least give folks the heads up, so that alternative plans can be discussed and made."
