ESPN sports personality Jay Mariotti has been charged with seven misdemeanors in connection to a domestic violence report on Aug. 20 in Los Angeles.
Mariotti, a regular on Around the Horn, has been charged with two counts of domestic violence with injury, two counts of domestic violence, one count of grand theft, one count of false imprisonment and one count of vandalism. Each count carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail.
Mariotti was arrested last month when he got in an argument with his girlfriend at a Santa Monica nightclub, accusing her of flirting with another man. The argument continued at the couple's home in Los Angeles, where a physical altercation ensued and police were called. Mariotti was released on $50,000 bail at the time, and was not charged with a felony due to lack of sufficient evidence.
An arraignment is scheduled for Friday in a Los Angeles criminal courts building.
ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz released the following statement regarding Mariotti's arrest.
"We have no plans to use him (Mariotti) at this time."
Mariotti was a regular AOL Fanhouse columnist and was often a featured panelist on Around the Horn. He has been noticeably absent from both since the incident.
