Joey Chestnut Takes Bite Out of Record Books at World Pizza Eating Championship in Boston

Joey Chestnut Takes Bite Out of Record Books at World Pizza Eating Championship in Boston Boston welcomed some of the biggest appetites in the world over the weekend as the city played host to the 2010 Upper Crust Pizza Eating Championships at The House of Blues.

The world’s best eaters came from all over to participate, including the Major League Eating’s No. 1 eater Joey “Jaws” Chestnut.
Chestnut had some stiff competition in Bob Shoudt (ranked second in the world) and Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti (ranked third in the world).

All of the eaters had different strategies going into the event.

“We had a cannoli competition last week and the breading around the cannoli is very similar to the crust of a pizza so I think that I am ready,” Crazy Legs Conti said before the event, which was part of the Phantom Gourmet Food Festival outside of Fenway Park.

Chestnut, who already has many titles including hot dogs and wings, was confident heading in.

“Usually I’m pretty good with pizza,” he said. “I had a taste of the pizza yesterday but my main thing is I go into the contest empty and I try to find my rhythm.”

Chestnut certainly did find his rhythm devouring 37 slices of Upper Crust pizza in just 10 minutes, setting a new world record.
