Josh Reddick had two home runs for the Red Sox in 2009, both struck in Camden Yards in Baltimore. It's a whole new experience sending one deep into the night at Fenway Park.
"It felt great," Reddick said after hitting a solo shot, his first ever at in Boston, in the Sox' 6-1 win over the Orioles on Wednesday. "I felt it last year in Baltimore, but you never get that full effect until you're home."
The blast reached the first few rows of the stands in right, just beyond the curve of the wall more than 380 feet from home plate. It gave the Red Sox a 4-1 advantage and Reddick an idea of just how far it is to certain portions of the quirky park.
"It made me feel kind of like I was a weakling," said the 23-year-old. "I hit that ball pretty well and it barely went out. I hit it to the deepest part of the ballpark. It still felt pretty good."
While he was all smiles in the Red Sox' clubhouse after the game, Reddick did joke that he was robbed of one Fenway Park experience that all youngsters can usually look forward to after going deep.
"I was kind of waiting for David [Ortiz] to come give me a bear hug. I was kinda disappointed," Reddick said with a smile. "He was probably up here getting some work done. I can't be mad."
It's hard to be upset after a moment like that one.
