No, Framingham, Mass., native and former Red Sox infielder Lou Merloni is nothing like the repulsively hysterical Kenny Powers from HBO’s Eastbound and Down.
However, according the the guys at brobible.com, Sweet Lou does make their list of “15 Professional Athletes Who Have Had Real-Life Kenny Powers Moments.”
Merloni, like Powers, was a gym teacher at Framingham High School for two offseasons before making it to Boston’s big club in 1998.
Other athletes to make the list were Rod Beck (mullet), Darryl Strawberry (drug abuse), Tyson Ross (lives with family) and John Daly (sold his own memorabilia).
The second season of the baseball-based comedy, that stars Danny McBride
as an over-the-top washed-up ballplayer, premieres this Sunday night.

COMMENT OF THE DAY
This faithless Sox fan has been waiting a while to use this one.
“If the Red Sox win all 10 of their final games (think about that for a minute, how many 10 game winning streaks they have this year? This decade? In their history?) AND the Yankees lose 6 out of their last 9, the Red Sox will STILL miss the playoffs. Anyone who thinks that’s going to happen raise their right hand (probably the one with the beer mug in it).”
