Marc Savard Rumors Causing Controversy in Boston

Marc Savard Rumors Causing Controversy in Boston Tuesday’s report that Bruins center Marc Savard was being “actively shopped” around the league has sparked an intense level of controversy throughout Beantown.

During Tuesday’s edition of NESN Daily, ESPN.com writer James Murphy reported that his sources claimed that members of the Bruins’ brass were listening to offers from other teams for Savard and actively shopping him out for a trade.

The news that Savvy may be leaving the Garden ignited a maelstrom of feedback, culminated by NESN Bruins play-by-play announcer Jack Edwards. In response to the anonymous sources, Edwards prepared a list of reasons why Bruins fans should not believe the rumors. He called in to Thursday night’s edition of NESN Daily to expand on his beliefs.

“It’s as if you’re a science reporter and you’re saying, ‘An asteroid is going to hit the earth,'” Edwards said. “It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen today or tomorrow or next week or in the next millennium.”

NESN.com Bruins reporter Doug Flynn also stopped in to further discuss the Savard situation with co-host Jade McCarthy.

“The Bruins have to do something, they are over the cap,” Flynn said. “They’ll get a break with that initially with Marco Sturm going on long-term injury reserve, but eventually they’re going to have to find a way to move money out whether it be through a trade or sending someone down. Marc Savard is one of those guys who makes enough money to make that difference.”
