The Miami Heat are starting their season on a sad note.
Nancy Lopez-Ruiz, a 22-year old who was recently joined the Heat dance team, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., last Friday, The Miami Herald reports.
Lopez-Ruiz was on her way home from practice when a Mercedes-Benz hit her from behind and knocked her off the bike. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear whether she was wearing a helmet.
Blood samples were taken from Mario Careaga, the driver of the Mercedes. Police are still waiting for the toxicology reports.
The funeral for Lopez-Ruiz is set for 9:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bradenton.
