The Red Sox' season doesn't officially end until Sunday afternoon, but perhaps a higher power is trying to finish them off ahead of time.
The lights went out at U.S. Cellular Field on Thursday night in the sixth inning of Boston's game with the Chicago White Sox. Red Sox reliever Robert Coello was about to throw a 3-2 pitch to Ramon Castro with one out in the inning when the entire bank of overhead lights ringing the main portion of the 19-year-old stadium went out.
Both teams left the field in darkened conditions, with only lights in the outfield still on.
The game featured Red Sox lefty Jon Lester going for 20 wins, but he was knocked out in the fifth inning after giving up eight runs. It is the final road contest of the season for Boston.
