Randy Moss Still Expected to Play Hard Despite Puzzling Postgame Remarks Patriots wide receiver Randy Moss tried to clear the air on where he stands on a potential contract extension and his need to feel wanted on Sunday, but it’s still not exactly clear where he stands.

Moss had some interesting things to say about a potential contract extension and his thoughts on how much he’s appreciated in Foxboro following the Patriots’ 38-24 victory over the Bengals in Week 1.

Despite a game with many positive storylines for the Pats, the veteran receiver decided to hold a rare media session following the game that quickly turned the focus from the positives of a convincing win to the issues No. 81 is having.

“The spotlight was on the Patriots as a team,” NESN.com Patriots reporter Jeff Howe said on Monday night’s NESN Daily. “The defense, Tom Brady and his contract, Wes Welker coming back from the knee … There were a lot of good moments. Randy Moss did not need to take away from those by putting himself in front of the team.”

Despite Moss’ comments, it’s unlikely to expect anything less than his best on the field this season, especially considering he’s in a contract year.

“He’s still playing for a contract, absolutely,” The Boston Globe’s Shalise Manza Young said. “I think if he does that fully, he will certainly get paid. If not by New England, then somebody.”
