Report: Carmelo Anthony to Nets Trade Talks Dead

If Carmelo Anthony is going to come home it's beginning to look like he's going to do so in free agency next summer, not in an offseason trade this fall.

A deal that would send the All-Star forward to the New Jersey Nets has been pulled off the table a Nets team source tells the New York Daily News.

The Nets felt that the Nuggets had dragged their feet through the process, and after imposing a deadline that passed, they felt that the rumors had become a distraction.

The source indicated that the Nets were becoming concerned with the amount of attention that first-round draft pick Derrick Favors and point guard Devin Harris were getting as potential centerpieces of the deal.

The story also sorts an NBA source who claims the deal fell apart after the Nuggets refused to make the deal without the Nets taking on Denver forward Kenyon Martin as part of the deal.

Anthony, who will be a free agent following this season, is a native of Brooklyn. The Nets, of course, are expected to move to Brooklyn in two years.
