The pattern of freak injuries in baseball is seemingly spiraling out of control.
It began with Kendry Morales' game-winning grand slam resulting in a season-ending leg injury. It became even more ridiculous when Chris Coghlan suffered the same fate throwing a pie to celebrate a walk-off win.
Now, a home run may end the career of an eight-time Gold Glove winner.
Jim Edmonds went deep against the Brewers on Monday, only to feel something pop in his lower leg as he rounded the bases. His Achilles has been bothering him all year, and he believes that he may have torn it following his bomb, USA Today reports.
If so, he would be out for the season — one widely expected to be the final of his career.
Edmonds, was was playing in his 13th game for the Reds since being dealt to Cincy from the Brewers, has been a major contributor to the Reds' playoff-bound resurgence.
