It's been an up-and-down year for Michael Bowden.

The Red Sox pitching prospect will be activated for Tuesday night's game at Fenway against the Rays, the team announced.

This will be his third stint with the team in 2010. The right-hander has twice been called up to replace injured relievers on the Sox' roster this summer.

He has allowed four runs in six innings of action with Boston this season, and has served both as a starter and reliever with the PawSox, starting 16 games and relieving in 15.

He is 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA as a Triple-A reliever in 2010.
