Should Red Sox Bring Back Manny Ramirez in 2011? The debate about whether Johnny Damon would be welcomed back to Boston was quite contentious when the Red Sox claimed him off waivers in August. The Manny Ramirez argument would be astronomically more intense.

With Ramirez apologizing to Boston and explaining that he is a new man on Friday, Manny seems to be searching for reconciliation with his former fan base and team.

It seems unlikely that the White Sox are using Ramirez as any more than a hired gun, given that the team steers clear of Scott Boras clients. Manny’s tenure in the South Side is basically an audition for 2011.

Boston has a good amount of money to sign free agents in the upcoming offseason, so the obvious question of “Should the Red Sox bring Manny Ramirez back in 2011?” looms large.

Obviously, the Manny of 2010 hasn’t produced like Manny did when he first wore Dodger blue — let alone like he did when he wore a Red Sox uniform — but Ramirez does tend to give his best when in new situations.

Still, Ramirez really shouldn’t be playing in the field at this point, and acquiring Manny would prevent the the Red Sox from going after a long-term option at designated hitter such as Prince Fielder.
