Test Your Knowledge About Boston Garden Blackouts The Bruins figuratively played lights out at the Boston Garden for decades, but during one Stanley Cup game in Boston, that saying literally came to life.

The lights went out in the Boston Garden during overtime in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals between the Bruins and Oilers. Edmonton won the game 3-2 in triple overtime and went on to win the series in five games.

This incident was déjà vu for both teams because in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals between the Bruins and Oilers two years earlier, the lights also went out at the Garden, but they didn’t come back on. That game had to be replayed in Edmonton, where Boston got swept.

In what year did the lights in the Boston Garden briefly go out during overtime in the Stanley Cup finals?
