Vincent Jackson Trade Deadline Looms as Vikings, Chargers Ponder Move The Minnesota Vikings clearly need Vincent Jackson.

Sidney Rice will remain sidelined for the better part of the season after undergoing hip surgery, Percy Harvin isn’t practicing as he recovers from migraines and a hip injury he suffered against the Dolphins on Sunday and Bernard Berrian has made little-to-no impact for the Vikes thus far.

Brett Favre clearly loves throwing half of his passes to Visanthe Shiancoe, but the team would surely be better off if he had a legitimate wide receiver to throw to. When you’re a “gunslinger” like Favre, you need to keep the defense guessing to avoid interceptions. Right now, defenses just have to pick between Adrian Peterson and Shiancoe.

The team signed receiver Hank Baskett on Tuesday, but he’s most famous for being married to Playboy’s Kendra Wilkinson — not for being good at football.

The Vikes need Jackson. And Jackson, coincidentally, needs the Vikes.

The reality of Jackson’s suspension is such that he will be out six games if he remains in San Diego, but will only be out four if he is traded by 4 p.m. ET Wednesday.

As a result, the move would be a win-win for Minnesota and Jackson, and San Diego wouldn’t suffer too much either. Legadu Naanee and Malcom Floyd have performed admirably as Phil Rivers‘ primary targets, so Jackson is not only expensive and unhappy, but also expendable.

Most importantly though, the Vikings are 0-2 and have one of the league’s toughest schedules to look forward to. Something has to change immediately.

Reports have already surfaced that the deal is done, but they have subsequently been discredited. The Chargers are apparently asking a lot from Minnesota in return, but as things come down to the wire, one of the parties should give in.

The move just makes too much sense for everybody. It needs to happen.
