Will the Blue Jays Be a Contender in the AL East in 2011? Are the Blue Jays poised to do even better in the wake of trading Roy Halladay?

They are one game over .500 and a surprising 15 games behind the Yankees in the AL East. It’s safe to look ahead to next season, and for the Blue Jays 2011 might finally be their year.

It is difficult to establish any momentum in the American League East. The Blue Jays seem to start off hot every year, but the Yankees and Red Sox have controlled the division for what feels like forever, and that pesky Rays club may actually be the best team in the majors. So how do you go about beating these behemoths?

Two ways: pitching and luck.

Shawn Marcum, Ricky Romero, Brett Cecil and Brandon Morrow have all been surprisingly solid for Toronto. It seems to have found a closer with new life in Kevin Gregg. If the Blue Jays can add a shut-down ace to this rotation, they will be set to make a serious run.

And look out world, Vernon Wells remembered how to play baseball. This has been Wells’ best year since 2006. He is currently batting .271 with 27 home runs and 78 RBIs.

Jose Bautista has been an unstoppable force for the Blue Jays the entire 2010 season. He is absolutely crushing the ball for the first time in his career. The numbers he is putting up this year are ludicrous, as he’s currently hitting .262 with a major league-leading 48 home runs and is second in the AL with 113 RBIs.

The Blue Jays will have to build on these success stories and keep their fingers crossed if they are going to make a run in AL East next season.
