Longtime NBA player Allen Iverson is leaving the league — and the continent.
Iverson reportedly is set to sign a two-year, $4 million contract with Turkish team Besiktas.
"I will go to the United States on Friday and talk to him face to face. … I think we'll have an official deal after this meeting," club board member Seref Yalcin told state-run news agency Anatolian.
Iverson’s contract will supposedly have an opt-out clause that will allow him to leave the team after one year.
Iverson was drafted No. 1 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1996 NBA draft. The Rookie of the Year winner went on to play 10 consecutive seasons with Philadelphia before being traded to Denver in December of the 2006-07 season.
Iverson won the league MVP award in 2001, when he averaged 31.1 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.51 steals in 71 games.
He played for the Detroit Pistons in 2008-09 and three games for the Memphis Grizzlies last season before returning to Philadelphia in December 2009. Iverson’s homecoming was short, as he left the team for the rest of the season in February to spent time with his sick daughter.
Thereafter, he was unable to find employment in the association.
