Brandon Meriweather Ready to Move On After Fine, Says 'Wants All This to Go Away' FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather made a statement Wednesday regarding his helmet-to-helmet hit on Todd Heap and subsequent $50,000 fine from the league.

He appeared nervous, expressed remorse and did not answer follow-up questions addressing anything other than this weekend's game against the Chargers.

"To start off, I want to say once again I'm sorry for the hit," Meriweather said. "I understand the league is trying to protect the health of all our players. I don’t even know how to put it, but to be honest, I just want all this to go away, you know what I mean? And I want to focus with the rest of my team on the Chargers and really not let this come up again. I'm going to try my best to play within the rules like my coach has always taught us to hit and play the game like my coaches have always taught us. Even in training camp, we have always been taught the proper way to hit.

"I'm going to just focus on that and try to put it in my game in some way, shape, form or fashion. From here on, I'm focusing on the Chargers, and anything else spoken about this, I will not comment on."
