ESPN.com reports that Anthony said he will not be taking the $65 million contract extension with the Nuggets, and that he believes it's time for a change. Anthony made the announcement in an interview with Yahoo! Sports after Wednesday night's 110-88 win over the Utah Jazz.
"It ain't got nothing to do with the new GM [Masai Ujiri], Josh [Kroenke, team president], or the players," Anthony said. "For me, I feel it's a time for change."
Anthony's contract extension from the Nuggets has been sitting on the table for months now, with several rumors spreading that Anthony was ready to leave Denver and head east for a new team. One July article reported that the New York Knicks were looking to create a Big Three of their own around Anthony, Amare Stoudemire and Chris Paul.
The Knicks are one of the big players looking to trade for Anthony within the year, along with the New Jersey Nets and the Chicago Bulls. The Nuggets have until the February trade deadline to deal Anthony to another team.
"If I do nothing now, I'm never going to do anything," Anthony said. "I feel like my time is now to make a decision if I want to leave or if I want to stay."
