Celtics Cool Off Heat, New Big Three in NBA Opener (Photos) The season is nearly eight months long, but there was a lot riding on the NBA opener at the TD Garden.

It was the nation’s first look at the Miami Heat’s new Big Three, an event that many have been waiting for ever since LeBron James uttered those unforgettable words: “I’m taking my talents to South Beach.”

What makes the NBA opener even more exciting is that it was hosted by the defending Eastern Conference champs, and the creators of the original Big Three — the Boston Celtics.

Media fanfare swarmed the TD Garden on Tuesday, seeking interviews and photos of the night’s big stars before the tip-off at 7:30 p.m. The Celtics won the game 88-80, preventing the Heat from going 82-0, but don’t write Miami’s eulogy in the East quite yet.
