When fans look back on the 2010 Boston Red Sox season, one thing may stand out above all else — injuries.

When you think about the list of players the Red Sox have lost for an extended period of time, it reads like an All-Star roster. Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Josh Beckett, Clay Buchholz, Victor Martinez and Jacoby Ellsbury have all hit the disabled list at some point this year.

Buchholz and Beckett were the only ones of that list to escape season-ending injuries — kind of. Buchholz was supposed to start over the weekend against the Yankees, but his start was scratched when the righty experienced lower back stiffness, ending his 2010 season.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox are hopeful to get the core of their team back in time for spring training next year. Pedroia had surgery for his broken foot on Sept. 3, while Mike Cameron underwent surgery on his injured ab muscle on Aug. 27. Youkilis had his surgery on Aug. 6.

With the catching future uncertain, the Red Sox are expecting to have Jarrod Salatalamacchia back by spring training after he just recently had surgery on his thumb.

The 2010 season of injuries finally came to an actual end on Sunday. The Red Sox can only help 2011 will be better.
