Connecticut Cheerleaders Petition School Board to Make Outfits More Modest

The National Federation Rules Book decrees "When standing at attention, apparel must cover the midriff" in Section 2, Article 6. A group of cheerleaders in Bridgeport's Central High School feel their outfits violate such rule, and they aren't comfortable with that.

Cheerleaders from the school went in front of the school board to ask for help, wearing their too-small uniforms, The Connecticut Post reports.

"I don't feel comfortable wearing this, " said former captain Heidi Medina.

"It really hurts our self esteem," remarked Ariana Mesaros, another senior on the team. "I am embarrassed to stand up here dressed like this. Is this really how you want Bridgeport to be represented?"

The school has insisted that the right sizes of the uniforms were ordered, but they may just have had a small cut.

The team, though, was able to have their skirts changed — not because of size, but because they looked "cheesy."

The school may purchase black body suits for the team so that their uniforms do not violate cheerleading rules.
