There are currently six NFL teams with starting quarterbacks who have passer ratings below 70.
Maybe one of those teams should give Jeff Garcia a call.
Now in the United Football League, Garcia led his Omaha Nighthawks to a 20-17 victory over Dante Culpepper and the Sacramento Mountain Lions Sunday night, continuing what has been an exciting first UFL season for the former CFL and NFL signal caller.
Garcia connected with former NFL tight end Jeb Putzier on a game-winning touchdown with just under five minutes remaining, helping the Nighthawks advance to a 2-0 start. It was Garcia’s second touchdown throw of the game.
A former quarterback for the 49ers, Browns, Lions, Eagles, Buccaneers, and Raiders, Garcia is now thriving in the UFL. He’s thrown for 509 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions through the team’s first two games, and has rushed for 16 yards as well.
Garcia is one of the UFL’s biggest names, but is just one Nighthawks players NFL fans will be familiar with. Omaha’s roster also includes former NFLers such as Ahman Green, Matt Gutierrez, Ricardo Colclough, and Cato June, and features several former college stars as well.
Omaha is next scheduled to take on Tim Rattay and the Las Vegas Locomotives on Friday, October 8.
NFL scouts would be wise to watch.
