NFL Jerseys Have Undergone Many Changes Over the Years The NFL jersey has progressed from an ugly sweater to a must-have fashion piece.

Originial jerseys from the 1920s were thick, knitted, long-sleeve shirts, usually made from wool. Today, jerseys are 100 percent polyester mesh that optimize players’ performance.

The jersey continues to evolve. In 2012, Nike will take over for Reebok as the manufacturer of all NFL apparel. Reebok’s loss is the Swoosh’s multimillion-dollar gain.
