NFL Players Will Likely Struggle in Shaking ‘Hit Hard’ Mentality

NFL Players Will Likely Struggle in Shaking 'Hit Hard' Mentality As the saying goes, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.

While many of the players in the NFL can hardly be defined as "old dogs," it will definitely be a challenge for many players to hold back when going in for a tackle. Most of the players in the NFL have been playing the game since they were just Pee Wees, and the "hit hard" mentality has been ingrained in their minds since day one.

Two former Patriots stopped in for Thursday's edition of NESN Daily, and both agreed that it will be difficult for players to all of a sudden pull back on what they've been trained to do their entire lives.

"The mentality of football is to hit," David Givens told Daily co-host Jade McCarthy. "When that's your mentality, it's going to be very hard for guys to change what they've been taught since they were five or six years old."
