After watching his team go 2-3 in his absence, Saints running back Reggie Bush is eager to return to the gridiron.
According to a report by Yahoo Sports, Bush told reporters that he was ready to test his leg in practice and wanted to start on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers if all goes well.
Bush said his right fibula (which he fractured during Week 2) has been healing well with consistent training sessions where he's been working on strength and conditioning. With his continued improvement, Bush said he expects to return to 100 percent in practice on Wednesday.
"I expect to go out there and see what I can do," Bush said, according to Yahoo. "I don’t know if I can practice, if I’m going to be 100 percent. I’m just going to go out there and give it my best shot. I feel good, but I haven’t gone out there.”
Bush is aware, however, that he can't rush the recovery process, and he said he won't return unless he feels completely comfortable running the sharp lateral cuts and routes he's accustomed to.
"It’s all about being safe and being 100 percent and being sure that you’re ready to go out there and contribute without having any lingering pain or nagging injuries or anything like that,” he said.
The Saints are coming off a rough loss to the Cleveland Browns, where quarterback Drew Brees threw four picks and was sacked three times. New Orleans posts a 4-3 record this season, positioned in fourth place in the NFC South.
Should his practices go well this week, Bush would return for the Saints' Sunday Night Football contest against the Steelers at the Superdome.
