Kansas City Chiefs’ defensive tackle Shaun Smith cannot keep his hands above the equator.
He has been fined $10,000 for grabbing San Francisco offensive lineman Anthony Davis in his groin area in the Chiefs’ Week 3 win over the 49ers.
Out of the three games the Chiefs have played so far this season, Smith has been accused by two of the Chiefs’ opponents for grabbing players inappropriately. In Week 2, Alex Mack, the Cleveland Browns center, accused Smith of grabbing his private parts.
"I don't think he should be able to do that," Mack said Monday. "I'm still fired up about it."
According to ESPN.com, Mack chased Smith down the field during the second quarter after the grabbing took place. Mack then noticed that the officials did not see the incident and had to get off the field since the punt team was coming on.
Smith denied any wrongdoing saying "I don't have no comment…I don't recall doing anything like that. I'm not known for being a dirty player or anything like that, so I don't know what that was all about."
He cannot say as much now after being fined for the same offense just one week later. As a defensive tackle, it’s Smith’s job to rough up the other players, but grabbing below the belt is not the way to get ahead.
