The Chicago Cubs' hiring of Mike Quade all but guaranteed that Joe Girardi would be returning to the Yankees, and now it appears that's close to becoming official.

The New York Daily News reported Thursday that the two sides are "getting close" to a three-year contract worth a little more than $3 million per season. The report says that Girardi's agent is trying to "squeeze" more out of the Yankees but that a deal could be completed by the end of the week.

Girardi's Yankees were ousted from the playoffs last week against the Rangers after finishing the season one game behind the Rays in the AL East. Girardi's record in New York is 287-199, making the playoffs in two of his three seasons and winning the World Series in 2009.
