Roush Fenway drivers Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle all experienced mechanical failures of one kind or another today during the Pepsi Max 400 at Auto Club Speedway.
Tony Stewart won the race — his first win at Fontana in 19 tries — and Chase leader Jimmie Johnson finished third, further cementing his lead in the Sprint Cup standings. Clint Bowyer placed second.
Kenseth, who entered the race in 11th place, had the best finish among Roush Fenway drivers, managing to place 30th despite experiencing engine trouble as early as lap 191.
Edwards, who was fourth in the Sprint Cups standings and had the best chance of any Roush Fenway driver of winning the championship, finished 34th after several lengthy pit stops for electrical problems.
Biffle was unable to finish the race due to engine failure, and finished third-to-last after completing just 40 laps.
The race was the 30th in the Sprint Cup Series, and leaves just five races remaining for Edwards, Kenseth and Biffle try and make up some ground in the standings.
The next Sprint Cup race will be held Saturday, Oct. 16 in Charlotte.
