Roush Fenway Drivers Greg Biffle and Matt Kenseth finished in the top 10 at the Bank of America 500 on Saturday, improving their rankings in the Sprint Cup Series standings.
Biffle, who entered the race 10th in the Sprint Cup standings, finished fifth and led one lap of the 344-lap race, earning 160 points. Kenseth came to Charlotte Motor Speedway in 11th place in the Sprint standings, and finished sixth, also leading one lap and earning 155 points.
Jamie McMurray was the surprise winner of the race, leading 65 laps on the way to his second career win at a Sprint race in Charlotte. Kyle Busch, who was ninth in the Sprint standings heading into the race, led 216 laps, but finished second after McMurray passed him for the final time on lap 314.
Sprint Cup leader Jimmie Johnson finished third in the race, grabbing another 170 points and further cementing his status as the series’ likely favorite.
Roush Fenway driver Carl Edwards also had a strong race, coming in 12th and earning 132 points. He entered the race seventh in the Sprint standings, but will need a strong push to be a serious contender for the title.
Only five races remain in the Sprint Cup’s 10-race playoff format. The next race will be held on Sunday, Oct. 24 at Martinsville.
