Yankee Fans Are Lucky Kristen Lee Didn’t Take Ballpark Taunts Personally

Yankee fans should be heaving one big sigh of relief right now.

The fact their organization would be heavily pursuing Kristen Lee‘s husband, Cliff Lee, during the offseason apparently had no effect on the Bronx crowd during the ALCS. Shouting obscenities was just the beginning of the Yankee fans’ barrage against Lee’s wife (who is the mother of his two young children). They also allegedly spit and threw beer in the direction of Kristen, who was seated in the visitor’s section.

“The fans did not do good things in my heart,” she said, according to an earlier report. “When people are staring at you, and saying horrible things, it’s hard not to take it personal.”

Luckily for Yankee fans, she’s not taking it personal. Kristen Lee is taking the high road.

According to ESPN.com, Cliff Lee’s agent has announced the incident has not affected Kristen’s opinion of New York.

“The story is not an issue to us,” Lee’s agent, Darek Braunecker said. “Her experience in New York is certainly a non-issue. She enjoys New York as much as anyone enjoys New York.”

Yankee fans have their current ace to thank for that. The Lees continue to maintain a solid friendship with the Sabathias. CC Sabathia and Cliff Lee played together in Cleveland early in their careers and are still good friends to this day. Their wives, Kristen and Amber, are also close.

The Lees were reportedly welcoming the opportunity to move to New York back in July, when Cliff Lee was nearly traded to the Yankees. Kristen and Amber were even discussing locations for the couple’s new home.

The Yankees have a big workload ahead of them if they want to snag Cliff Lee during the offseason — especially if the Texas Rangers win the World Series. But they are extremely lucky that Kristen Lee’s experience in the New Yankee Stadium will not affect his decision.
