The Red Sox successfully spoiled the Yankees' 2010 AL East title hopes on Sunday, and Yankees fans weren't too happy about it.

Most, though, didn't stab Red Sox fans as a result.

Yankees fan John Mayor of New Haven stabbed New Hampshire's Monte Freire at the Chowder Pot in New Haven suburb Branford Sunday after the two argued over the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry.

Mayor was taken into custody by the police with the help of Friere's friends after he was seen trying to hide the weapon in the nearby woods.

Freire underwent emergency surgery for his wounds at Yale New Haven Hospital. Mayor is being held on $500,000 bond.
