Indiana basketball tipped off its 2010 season on Monday with a little controversy — even if it had nothing to do with its overtime win over Division II Ferris State.

Instead, it had everything to do with Austin Rivers, son of Celtics head coach Doc Rivers and brother of Hoosier Jeremiah Rivers.

Austin, who has committed to Duke as the nation’s top recruit, called out Indiana head coach Tom Crean over Twitter as a result of Crean’s falling out with his brother last season.

“Sometimes I wonder why my older brother went to Ind! Cause tom Creme is a joke! My bro deserves more respect,” he tweeted.

Of course, the retweet frenzy ensued and Rivers found himself in hot water. In response, he did what everybody does in this situation and claimed his account was hacked.

He apologetically sent the following three tweets:

  • “Sorry people out there! Someone is hacking into my twitter account and saying stuff! Someone hacked into my Facebook earlier this year!”
  • “That’s why I deleted my facebook! Whoever out there hacked in my twitter please stop!!!”
  • “Once again whoever has gotten in my account please say no more!Coach crean is a great coach!i have respect for him and everyone in the game.”

All of his tweets, including the original one calling Crean “a joke,” reportedly came from his iPhone, meaning that it’s unlikely his Twitter account was actually hacked.
