The NFL made it all the way to week 10 without somebody guaranteeing a playoff appearance. The streak is over — unsurprisingly at the hands of Brandon Marshall.
Marshall, who has found the endzone only once this season, acknowledged that things could be better on WQAM, but that in no way quashed his optimistic predictions.
"No one is happy, sitting at 4-4. There's some concern there. But we have a Dolphins team that will be in the playoffs and will contend in the championship game," he said.
Marshall had a moment of self-awareness after his declaration, given his long history of outlandish claims and statements.
"This is not a Tim Tebow moment. We have what we need to be a championship team. Guaranteed, from here on out we will compete, we won't lay down and we'll make the plays necessary to win the game," Marshall explained.
Marshall probably didn't have to clarify that he wasn't Tebow.
Though the star receiver's touchdowns have decreased in Miami, he is still on pace for over 100 catches and 1200 yards this season.
While Miami sits at 4-4, they have only lost to teams with the league's best record: Baltimore, New England, Pittsburgh and the Jets — with the latter two matchups being decided by a razor thin margin.
Their second half schedule, featuring matchups with the likes of Chicago, Buffalo and Detroit, is significantly more manageable — though they would have to overcome at least one of the teams that beat them in the standings to grab one of the six playoff spots.
