Hess to Donate Additional $25,000 to Foundation

BOSTON -– Fans of NESN's hit new original program, After The Game: Work Hard, Live Well, Give Back, have spoken and have chosen the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism as the grand prize winner of an additional $25,000 donation from Hess. As the show's philanthropic sponsor Hess has already donated $5,000 to the favorite charity of all eleven sports figures featured this season on NESN.

"Hess Corporation is delighted to lend our support to the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism," Rick Lawlor, vice president of Retail Marketing for Hess Corporation, said. "All eleven charities are doing wonderful work, so we’re glad to let the fans select the charity to receive our grand prize donation."

The show has showcased some of New England's most beloved athletes, exploring how they became a world-class athlete, how they live well as a result of their hard work, and how they give back to the community. During Doug Flutie's episode, the famed football player gave viewers a tour of his Natick home and told the story of his amazing athletic career from Natick High to Boston College to the National Football League.  He also shared the story of how the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism was formed and why his entire family make such a huge contribution to its efforts.

"We're thrilled to be named the winner of the Viewer Vote," said Doug Flutie, president and co-founder of the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. "We extend a sincere thank you to both Hess and all of the viewers who took the time to vote for Dougie's Foundation and help us earn this $25,000. With autism rates up to 1 in 110 children, every dollar of funding is needed to help these children and their families. We're absolutely humbled by the outpouring of support."

The primary goal of the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism is to promote awareness and support families affected by autism spectrum disorders. They fund organizations that provide direct services, family support grants, education, advocacy and recreational opportunities with the purpose of improving the quality of life for individuals with autism and their families. Since its inception, the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism has distributed over $6 million in grants and programs that provide direct support to families living with autism spectrum disorders.
