Former Boston College football player Robert Ziminski was killed in a one-vehicle traffic accident early Sunday morning in Canton, Mass.

The Boston College media relations department sent out a press release on Tuesday confirming the devastating news.

"We were shocked and saddened to hear of Robert's tragic death," head coach Frank Spaziani said. "He was a member of the Boston College football family, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

Ziminski, a Willow Springs, Ill., native, played for the Eagles from 2002-05. He served as a valuable scout team player in his sophomore and junior seasons before serving as a backup on the defensive line in his senior season. He finished his final year with two solo tackles and one forced fumble.
