Jerry York has been serving behind the Eagles' bench since the 1994-95 season, a team he has led to the NCAA Championship game in four of the last five years.
"Jerry York is the best collegiate hockey coach in America," Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo said in the release by BC athletics. "Boston College is very fortunate to have a man of his talent, leadership and character at the helm of our hockey program. We are extremely pleased to announce this new contract."
York is in his 39th season coaching at the collegiate level as he spent the first seven years of his career coaching at Clarkson, and the next 15 behind the bench at Bowling Green. He won his first national championship with the Falcons in 1984.
He returned to BC, his alma mater, in June of 1994 to head their men's ice hockey program.
"I am very happy to continue my career here at Boston College," York said. "Since returning to my alma mater 16 years ago, I have been blessed to be surrounded by outstanding assistant coaches and staff members, and countless players with great talent and character. In addition, the support from our administration has been fantastic. I look forward to the years ahead as we strive to keep Boston College among the nation's premier hockey programs."
York is college hockey's second all-time winningest coach — and is first among active Division I coaches– with 858 wins. He was recently named a recipient, along with Boston University head coach Jack Parker, of the Lester Patrick Award for his "outstanding service to hockey in the United States."
